Amelie Poll Dorsets was founded in 2010 by the Sharpe family; Grahame, Brendan and James, with the accreditation of ewes purchased from Mr Tim Norton, 'Wombalano' Walcha NSW. These ewes were direct progeny from the meat elite flock which Mr Norton was the manager of in the 1990s. Since then genetics have been introduced from leading Australian studs, carefully matched to our breeding objectives. We seek to produce a useable sire for use in northern lamb production enterprises, one that is true to Dorset type, early maturing and high yielding. We focus on structural soundness and meat producing capacity, both essential features of a prime lamb and stud sire. Lambplan and genomics are used as supplementary selection tools in stud and allow us to provide accurate and comparable data to our clientele.
Our sheep are bred in the southern New England region of NSW on properties at Kentucky. The stud has an annual ram sale in February at which Spring-drop 2-tooth rams and Autumn-drop ram lambs are offered, in conjunction with the Walcha British Breed Ram Sale (co-vendors North-South Border Leicester's and Maryland White Suffolk).
Amelie Poll Dorsets is Australian Poll Dorset Association registered flock number 4525 and NSW Ovine Brucellosis Accreditation Scheme OB 13/24.Our flock are OJD vaccinates proving the buyer with assurance and the ability to enter multiple regions.
